Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to our wonderful school. It is an honour for me to lead Burscough Village Primary School. We have high expectations and aspirations for all our children. Each child has their own special talents which we endeavour to nurture and develop in our school. Our philosophy, 'Striving for the Future', is at the core of everything we do, providing children with the vital skills, knowledge and experiences they need to become well-rounded individuals both now and in adult life. We encourage children, staff and parents to develop a growth mindset, and this commitment to continual learning creates a rich, exciting environment for everyone.

Burscough Village Primary School is set in the heart of the Burscough community. We have strong links with local people and organisations, which provide a much-valued dimension to the school's ethos. The local area offers pupils real-life experiences and inspires them to appreciate the place they live.

Our curriculum brings learning to life through high-quality teaching and engaging topics. Educational visits enrich the curriculum, while visitors share their expertise to inspire and motivate pupils. A wide range of clubs and activities further enrich children's lives beyond the school day. We also offer an excellent before and after-school club, providing high-quality wraparound care for families who need this provision. Our dedicated team of staff and governors work tirelessly to nurture, support and challenge every child to achieve their best. We are proud that our most recent Ofsted inspection judged the school to be Good in all areas.

The children adore exploring the outdoors at every opportunity. To foster this learning and encourage a love of the natural world, we are fortunate to have extensive outdoor facilities including a full-size football pitch, pond, willow tunnels, staging area, outdoor classroom, climbing frames, traverse wall, treehouse, table tennis tables and a fire pit. In 2026, we further enhanced our outdoor provision with the addition of a state-of-the-art Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), providing year-round opportunities for a wide range of sports and physical activities. The MUGA supports our commitment to developing healthy, active lifestyles and offers valuable opportunities for both our pupils and the wider Burscough community to participate in sport and recreation. We actively encourage children to care for the environment through recycling, reducing waste and reusing materials wherever possible.

We are particularly proud of our thriving Early Years provision. Our nursery is situated within our beautiful school grounds and welcomes children from the age of two. Following significant investment, we recently opened our wonderful new Early Years building, providing a purpose-built environment designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning from the very start of a child's educational journey. Our Caterpillars provision offers nurturing and stimulating experiences for our youngest children- 2 year olds, while Butterflies supports children as they continue to grow in confidence, independence and readiness for school life. Together, these provisions provide a seamless Early Years journey supported by highly skilled and experienced practitioners. We are delighted to have been awarded the Lancashire Step into Quality Award across Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in recognition of our commitment to Early Years excellence.

We have a proactive and supportive Friends and Family of BVPS who organise a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, helping to provide additional resources and opportunities for all our pupils. They also arrange enjoyable social events for parents and carers, including quiz nights and other community activities. Their dedication continues to make a significant contribution to school life.

We hope you will come to love our school as much as we do. We are confident that your child's time with us will be filled with happiness, learning and success, creating treasured memories that will last a lifetime.
