Year 2 SATS meeting November 2017

Meet the Teacher Evening September 2017

Year 2 is a key year for the children because they are preparing to move into Key Stage 2, therefore there is a much greater emphasis placed on acquiring more formal academic skills.  In literacy, all children are becoming more confident, independent writers and should be able to write a sentence without adult support.  In maths, children are able to use lots of different ways to add and subtract.  They are beginning to multiply and divide, and should know their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table as a minimum.  Children continue to be taught letter sounds and spelling patterns.

The children have the opportunity to study many exciting topics, designed to capture their interest and make learning relevant and exciting.  Our topic for the autumn term is 'Fire Fire!' and we will be welcoming the fire brigade into school as well as setting things alight ourselves!!

Autumn Topic Overview

Spring Term topic is 'Explorers' where we will be learning about Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.
In the summer term, we will be 'Down in the Woods' using our school environment and our forest area.

At the end of Year 2, children are formally assessed by their teachers and their achievements are reported to parents/carers.  Children who did not achieve the required standard in the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check will take the test again in June.  You can support your child's learning by ensuring that they complete their weekly home learning tasks, practise their spellings at home, read at least 3 times a week and complete any projects set around our topic.

All Year 2 children have a log in for Purple Mash.  Username: year 2    Password: year2     It is a fun way for children to learn and consolidate topics covered.
