Our Curriculum Intent
At Burscough Village Primary School, we are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that has been designed to meet the needs of our individual children so that it is meaningful, stimulating and provides opportunities for all.
Our Reception and Nursery classes follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework that has 7 areas of learning and development. Children in the EYFS (Nursery and Reception) learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. Please see the 'Development Matters' document above that outlines the development of our younger children from birth to 5 years old.
The curriculum for each year group Year 1 to Year 6 is arranged over a term and presented as a ‘learning journey’ within a topic. Our intention is that each child develops a range of skills, whilst linking their knowledge and learning to subjects of science, computing, history, geography, art, design technology, music, RE and PE. Please see the curriculum map above for more details.
We invite parents and carers along to their class 'Come Learn with Me' sessions throughout the year to celebrate learning and also share how we learn in school with our families. Topic overviews are also sent to parents and carers every term and you can find a copy in the ‘Class Pages’ section of our website.
