Physical Education

Children have an experience of gymnastics, dance, swimming, athletics, team games and outdoor activities, in order to develop good body co-ordination and control.  We endeavor to give each child enjoyment and satisfaction from physical activity and to foster the development of positive sporting attitudes.   Specialist PE teachers and qualified coaches deliver lessons once a week in addition to the class teacher.  There are also a number of extra curricular activities using our own staff and coaches from a variety of sporting associations.  All pupils also have the opportunity to complete Bikeability - Cycling Proficiency sessions in Year 5.

You will find the extra curricular timetable for each term in the ‘Children – Extra Curricular Clubs’ section of the website.

Outdoor Areas

At Burscough Village Primary School, we are committed to giving children the opportunity to learn in the outdoor environment.  We believe that taking learning outside is good for promoting children's self esteem, well-being, behaviour, co-operative learning and problem solving.  Not only that, but these skills feed back positively into classroom work.  We have a variety of outdoor areas on offer for the children including hard and grassed play areas, an artificial grassed area with two adventure trails, a ‘forest’ area which extends from the sensory garden, gardening patches and a large outdoor classroom. We also have a brand new mud kitchen in the Early Years which the children (and staff) can’t wait to use!
