Nurture Sessions take place in our ‘Natter Chatter’ room (this name was decided upon by the children here at BVPS).
The Nurture room is designed to be a bridge between home and school/nursery; a place where children can feel safe and secure and therefore develop their individual needs further. Nurture sessions are part of the school’s Inclusion and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) provision.
Its purpose is to offer children opportunities to re-visit early learning skills and promote and support their social and emotional development. Research evidence states that children’s learning is most effective when they have a sense of emotional well-being, good self-esteem and a feeling of belonging to their school community.
Our sessions run for a variety of reasons and needs. Children in our school may need support with:
- communication (friendship groups, sharing and understanding emotions etc)
- family issues (coping with divorce, bereavements, split families)
- behaviour (shyness, anger, frustration)
- issues with confidence, self-esteem etc.
We believe that our children having the opportunity to share, discuss, explore different aspects of their social, emotional and behavioural needs means that they are more ready and willing to learn within the classroom environment.
Sessions run on a regular basis (in school time) however sometimes children may only need occasional support. We vary sessions to meet the needs of the children.
